This historic building was saved from being bulldozed for highway expansion by Eric and Paula. They owned a small lot in the "old town" neighborhood of Portland, and moved the historic building to their lot.
When they went to apply for a curb cut, for building permits, etc they were told that the footprint of the house was too large for that size of house.
The City of Portland has restrictions concerning the total percentage of a lot or acreage which may be covered with impervious structures - which includes the buildings and any impervious roadway such as concrete, asphalt, on non-engineered stone (many US cities are implementing similar zoning laws).
The footprint of the home consumed their allowance for impervious structures - they would not even be allowed a curb cut for off-street parking.
They contacted StabiliGrid, for an attractive and durable pervious roadway.
They decided upon the grass paving option
Please note: the "grass road" was seeded in early winter. This spring 2008 the grass will completely hide the StabiliGrid.

Paula and Eric used StabiliGrid for the approach, the side lane to the rear, the grass lawn and turnaround/parking area in the backyard, and the garage approach.
As a result, they were allowed to develop almost the entire acreage with structures: buildings and driveways.
But the effect is just the opposite! The entire eco-paved grass driveway and parking area appears as a normal, residential lawn.
The only difference: the StabiliGrid-reinforced and stabilized grass is able to support any vehicle weight which is legally allowed on any city street in the nation (certified vehicular LOAD rating of 22.45 US Tons / axle, compressive strength of 350,000 kg/m²).
